Touchwood Tours Company Profile
About the Prince George Region
Our Northern forests range from boreal spruce and Poplar in the northeast
to high-elevation balsam and cedars along the Rockies, to the Lodgepole
pine and Douglas-fir forests of the Interior plateau. The surrounding
landscape includes magnificent mountains, boreal forests, pristine lakes,
winding rivers and streams, and abundant wildlife such as moose, deer,
black and grizzly bears, elk, and mountain goats.
Our tours operate in the northern part of the Interior Plateau, the
Omineca Mountains to the north, sections of the Rocky Mountain Trench
to the east and part of the Cariboo Range to the south. The main
forest ecosystems in the region are boreal, white and black spruce, Engelmann
spruce-sub-alpine fir, Interior cedar-hemlock, and sub-boreal spruce
zones.
Our Vision and Goals
Our goal is to share information with the public about current forestry
practices, past practices, and the future direction of forest management. We
want to promote a better understanding of
the forest industry and the
role it plays in the local economy and environment and advance the cause
of forestry.
We hope to develop public appreciation for the positive environmental
and economic benefits of British Columbia's forest industry, and encourage
the wise use and management of all forestry-related resources including
wood, wildlife, soil and water.
About Touchwood Tours and Mark Clark, RPF
Mark L. Clark, who lives in Prince George with his wife Norma and
daughter Lauren, has been a leading
specialist in the forestry industry since 1981 when he received
his Registered Professional Forester designation. Working as
a treeplanter, forest engineer and practicing industrial forester has
given Mark a wealth of pratical and insightful knowledge of the forestry
and tourism industry – garnered
through years of successful, hands-on experience. Currently a woodlot

Mark enjoys guiding anglers and helping out with volunteer work on fisheries
issues. Mark also consults on a regular basis with industry throughout
the interior of BC, in the areas of silvicultural performance,
project design/implementation and forest certification.
Our guided forestry field tours are
a great opportunity to view the current on-the-ground practices of a
sustainable forest management process. The
day long trips include transportation, lunch, and expert (ie old!! tour
leaders) and the chance
to interact with local workers on a one to one basis. Safety considerations
include FM radio communications and first aid coverage.
